When you buy a new computer and you dispose of your old one, where does it go? You probably think your PC disposal goes to your local landfill but the truth of the matter is that your e-waste may be going somewhere else. In fact, a great deal of computer disposal waste actually gets sent out of the country illegally. The reason why is because electronic waste is actually very toxic. And, the United States would prefer other countries with lower standards have the waste where it is cheaper to process and to basically get the problem out of the country. However, this is illegal and it is causing more environmental problems because these poor countries do not handle the environmental waste in a way they should. This results in uncontrolled burning, disposal, and disassembly in unapproved manners. Negative health effects occur as well as occupational safety problems. e-waste, is a huge problem and one that should be recognized by people in the United States. This is because when electronic waste is shipped out of the United States, it may ease the problem here in the short run. But in the long run it will come back to haunt us by damaging the environment even more.
